The UAE is one of the leading countries in the adoption and implementation of renewable energy projects not only within its environment but also across the world, said the Minister of Infrastructure, Ports, Energy and Labour of Saint Lucia.

In a statement to the Emirates News Agency, WAM, on the sidelines of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, ADSW, Minister Stephenson King commended the UAE’s support for renewable energy projects in Saint Lucia through the UAE-Caribbean Renewable Energy Fund, UAE-CREF.

He pointed out that the Fund agreed to finance important renewable energy projects in Saint Lucia, including a station covered with photovoltaic solar panels and equipped with electric chargers.

"The Caribbean countries are increasingly dependent on renewable energy projects thanks to the combined efforts of the UAE-Caribbean Energy Fund and the countries that are implementing these projects," the Minister added.

The implementation of renewable energy projects in the Caribbean countries, he noted, helps enhance their energy security. King went on to say that promoting the use of renewable and clean energy solutions is one of the main objectives of the United Nations Development Plan and contributes to the sustainable development of societies and create safe and sustainable energy for future generations.

Fully financed by Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, ADFD, the UAE-CREF, the largest renewable energy initiative of its kind in the Caribbean region, is a partnership between Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company, Masdar.
