The second day of the 6th Arab Water Forum, held in collaboration with the World Utilities Congress, underscored the critical importance of innovative approaches to address water scarcity and climate change. With a steadfast commitment to fostering resilience and adaptation, the day’s sessions explored sustainable solutions and initiatives for a circular water economy.
The day’s proceedings commenced with a profound panel discussion on innovative approaches for adaptation and resilience in the face of water scarcity and climate change. This session, moderated by Prof. Walid Abdelrahman, Vice President of the Arab Water Council, featured eminent panelists including Mr. Andy Biffen, Asset Development Executive Director of Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC); Eng. Ahmed Al Shamsi, Managing Director & CEO of SWS Holding; Eng. Ali Bin Mohammed Al Abri, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources, Oman; Eng. Mohamed Bin Seliman AlFahami from the General Administration for Water Resources Regulation, Ministry of Environment Water & Agriculture, KSA; and Mr. Yasser Nagi, Group Director of Wilo Middle East and North Africa.
Subsequently, the focus shifted to the circular water economy for climate security, examining initiatives for a smart and green transition. This session was moderated by Dr. Roula Khadra, Science Coordinator, International Officer, Water Resources Management at CIHEAM Bari, with distinguished contributions from Mr. Mosaad Daoud, CEO of AgriKEMET; Dr. Aymen Sawassi, Water Management and Modeling Expert at CIHEAM Bari; Dr. Bilal Derardja, Consultant at CIHEAM Bari; Dr. Bisher Imam, Regional Hydrologist at UNESCO Regional Office, Cairo; Mr. Abed Ezz El Regal, Chairman & CEO of ABU QIR Fertilizers; and Eng. Hebah Abbas, Chairwoman of the Kuwait Water Association.
The sessions on Day 2 were meticulously designed to foster strategic dialogues and collaborative efforts, which are imperative for addressing the pressing water challenges faced by the Arab region and beyond. These discussions aimed to pave the way for sustainable practices and resilient water management strategies, reinforcing the Forum’s commitment to advancing water sustainability and fostering a resilient future for all.
