Full-service real estate company Provis marked Earth Hour 2021 yesterday (27th March) by switching off all the non-essential lightsin 16 Provis-managed communities between 08:30 PM – 09:30 PM. As a result of Earth Hour, the company was able to save more than 3,200 KWH of electricity, equivalent to reducing1,422 kg of CO2, and enough topower-up40 rural households for 30 days.
HP Aengaar, CEO at Provis, said, “The amount of electricity that we were able to conserve in just one hour demonstrates what a mindful green movement like Earth Hour can achieve. We consider Earth Hour an opportunity for us to raise awareness about preserving energy within the communities we manage and remind our residents that every little action matters.”
As part of Earth Hour, Provis also encouraged residents across all its communities to switch off and contribute to the global initiative. Participating communities included Mamsha Al Saadiyat, Gate & Arc Towers, Sun & Sky Towers, Shams Meera, Al Zeina, Al Bandar, Al Muneera, Al Hadeel, Ansam, Al Raha Gardens, Saadiyat Beach Villas, Saadiyat Beach Residences, Golf Gardens, Al Gurm, Al Bateen Park, and Alghadeer among others.
Sustainable practices and initiatives spearheaded by Provis last year led to the reduction of more than 16,000 tons of carbon emissions and conserving a total of 36 million KWH of total energy from electricity and chilled water consumption. The installation of LED lights alone across seven communities contributed to8.71 million KWH of electricity savings and reduction of 3,874 tons CO2 emissionslast year. In total, cost and energy savings in 2020 were worth over AED 6.5 million.
Provis had announced previously that it aims to increase energy savings by 15% throughout 2021 and 2022.
