The straws are part of the hotels current transition to renewable and sustainable products, as part of the world wide “I am Not Plastic” campaign with the support of the Abu Dhabi Tourism authority.
We started using them on 23rd July 2018 and expect to be plastic free in F&B of Le Royal Meridien Abu Dhabi by October 31st 2018.
We trialed them over a few weeks for mocktails only, which were positively received by guests so have now implemented them for all drinks at District by Amalfi.
We use Decceco Pasta Zita #18 which has a larger diameter than Bucatini and Penne and straight cuts at the ends.
We dispose of them along with food garbage in a composter.
