Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunication together with APM Terminals Bahrain and Supreme Council of Environment, recognizing the importance of a sustainable environment embarked on a mission to clean up the sea bed nearby Khalifa Bin Salman Port. This initiative is being carried out in various phases with the first phase concluding to coincide with the World Environment day wherein the initiative succeeded in the removal of 70 Kg’s of waste with the assistance of 10 voluntary divers.
The initial phase covered an area of approximately 20 miles north of the Kingdom of Bahrain. It was observed that the designated area contained a considerable amount of waste including plastic and debris.

World Environment Day is the UN’s most important day for encouraging worldwide awareness and action for the protection of our environment and marine Life. Since it began in 1974, it has grown to become a global platform for public outreach that is widely celebrated all over the world through conducting various initiatives to save the environment we live in.
