As part of its ongoing initiative to increase awareness on the key role of facilities management (FM) in energy efficiency and environmental sustainability, the Middle East Facilities Management Association will hold a networking event themed ‘The Integration of Facilities Management and Energy Sustainability Management’ at the World Trade Club, Dubai World Trade Center on December 13, 2017.

The FM sector, which is traditionally responsible for the day-to-day operations of buildings including cleaning, security, and other maintenance roles, is increasingly seen as a key player in implementing energy sustainability – a goal that is a growing concern for the built environment sector. Studies have shown that buildings are responsible for about 35 per cent of the world’s energy use, which has put pressure on the need to reduce energy consumption and thereby lower greenhouse gas emissions.

Jamal Lootah, President of MEFMA, said: “Energy efficiency in buildings is essential to the global goal of reducing carbon emissions from energy use. The Middle East Facilities Management Association is at the forefront of addressing these issues by providing the ideal platform to keep the industry conversation going and bring about fresh solutions for the built environment sector. Integrating energy management and FM are evolving roles that require fuller engagement among experts and we look forward to more industry professionals participating in this important event.”

The event, sponsored by Farnek Services, will host a presentation by Etihad ESCO’s Execution Manager Ibrahim Mohammad to be followed by a panel discussion with FM experts from the UAE’s leading companies including Emaar Properties, Farnek Services, Enova, Emrill Services and Al Shirawi Facilities Management.
