The late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan has always been at the forefront of sustainability and declaring 2018 as the Year of Zayed confirms the late Sheikh Zayed as the steward of UAE’s sustainability spirit.

“The legacy of our Founding Father, Sheikh Zayed, has led our nation on a path to sustainable development and prosperity. Through this recent announcement, which bears not just his name, but also his inspiring vision, the government empowers everyone to embark on that same path,” said Ivano Iannelli, CEO of Dubai Carbon Centre of Excellence.

The Year of Zayed will mark 100 years since the birth of the late founding father Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and will highlight the role of the late leader in establishing the UAE Federation, and his local, regional and international achievements.

“Sheikh Zayed had always infused in the United Arab Emirates a spirit of responsibility, of camaraderie and of collaboration. In a journey, he had begun over forty years ago; his vision was driven by a passionate belief in social, economic and environmental sustainability. While he believed that it is important to pursue development that meets the needs of present and the future, he laid greater emphasis on ensuring sustainable development of future generations,” said Ivano Iannelli,.

He added, “The announcement not only honours our Founding Father’s legacy of environmental stewardship, but.drives us closer to realising his vision of sustainability and also positions the country as a global hub and a successful model to support long-term economic growth. We are confident that declaring 2018 as the Year of Zayed will drive us closer to achieving late Sheikh Zayed’s vision of sustainable development”

“The UAE’s wise leadership has always played a transformative role in driving the country towards a sustainable future and the recent declaration will help us further align our key competencies to the objectives of the Year of Zayed. We will ensure that ’Sustainability and Green Economy’, which is one of our key competencies, helps support public and private sector entities to follow the steps and vision of the late Sheikh Zayed, but also ensure the growth of the economy,” concluded Ivano Iannelli.
