In conjunction with the Arabian Travel Market 2019, Ahmad bin Shafar, CEO of Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation, Empower, the world’s largest district cooling services provider, has confirmed Empower’s support to Dubai’s hospitality sector, one of the fastest-growing industries in the UAE.
The district cooling system helps the hotel enterprises to reduce carbon emissions and supports the electronic system followed by hotel establishments in Dubai to calculate the carbon footprint, which supports the government’s vision to reach a green economy and achieve sustainable development.
This took place on the sidelines of the Arabian Travel Market, ATM, which is being held at the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) from 28th April, to 1st May 2019, the leading travel and tourism event in the Middle East over the past 25 years.
"Empower had announced in January 2019, that it is providing district cooling services to 17 percent of the hotels in Dubai, including the world’s tallest hotels, W. Marquis Dubai, Burj Al Arab and Emirates Towers. Jumeirah, which has been listed in the World Atlas.com, for world’s tallest hotels, with notable attractions including Jumeirah Group, Jumeirah Beach Residence and Palm Jumeirah. Along with Atlantis Dubai, which is located on Jumeirah Island, the world’s largest artificial island and the third largest hotel in the UAE, according to the British newspaper The Mirror. Empower has plans to expand its services to the upcoming hotel projects. The use of Empower’s district cooling systems will result significant savings in energy for the growing hotel sector in Dubai" Bin Shafar added.
Bin Shafar highlighted that the steady growth in Dubai’s hospitality industry is a clear indication that this sector needs to adopt district cooling systems to be an active partner in promoting sustainability and reducing carbon emissions. Hotels with district cooling solutions are more energy efficient, and support the UAE’s strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. In addition, district cooling enhances the aesthetic appearance of hotels and gives designers more freedom to unleash their creative potential.
