Expanding the use of district cooling is one of the most effective weapons to combat climate change, said Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower), on the occasion of the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) which is being held in Glasgow, with the participation of 200 countries, including the United Arab Emirates. Empower’s statement came in support of UAE’s announcement to invest more than 600 billion dirhams ($163 billion) in clean and renewable energy over the next several years to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
Ahmad Bin Shafar, CEO of Empower, said that the company, as a key partner of the UNEP and a strong advocate of the implementation of environmentally-friendly district cooling systems world-wide, is moving forward in providing all forms of support to the various initiatives of United Nations aimed at transforming the cooling sector into energy efficient solutions. "Dubai, as a leading city in the district cooling industry, spares no effort in sharing its long experience in the environmentally-friendly district cooling systems with any country around the world. And we at Empower are keen to expand the use of sustainable solutions that contribute to reducing carbon emissions through the use of advanced and high-quality technologies in district cooling."
Bin Shafar stressed that the UAE, in its pursuit to combats climate change, attaches great importance to sustainability and environmental preservation by launching several strategies and projects aimed at increasing the proportion of renewable energy and energy efficiency, including the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050. "The UAE is one of the leading countries in developing renewable energy solutions and resources, with the country’s clean energy capacity is set to reach 14 gigawatts by 2030, compared to 100 megawatts in 2015. In the same vein, Empower is striving to increase investment in high-efficiency district cooling technologies to contribute to reducing carbon emissions and to leave a safe environment for future generations. To this end, Empower always seeks to introduce the latest district cooling technology and to adopt advanced strategies and systems in pursuit of the ultimate goal of achieving the net zero by mid-century."
District cooling,as one of the most effective sustainable solutions in space cooling, is a major contributor to preserving the environment and achieving a green economy, which ensures stability and safety for future generations. It is also one of the most important components of sustainable development that helps achieve the UAE’s goals to reduce carbon emissions, develop efficient clean energy technologies for refrigeration industry, rationalize energy consumption, and adopt green building standards in order to enhance standards of efficiency, effectiveness and environmental sustainability in daily life.
Empower highlighted the importance of the activities of the United Nations Climate Conference in Glasgow as a glimmer of hope for the world to find appropriate practical solutions to meet the challenges of climate change, and to continue achieving the sustainable development goals to reach clean energy by 2030.
