Ahmad Bin Shafar, CEO of Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower), the world’s largest district cooling services provider, will be attending the IDEA Campus Energy conference 2018 in Baltimore, in Maryland, USA from 5 to 9 March, under the theme ‘Sharing Solutions, Sustaining our Future’. Bin Shafar will also be attending the Board meeting of International District Energy Association (IDEA) which will be held along with the conference.
Bin Shafar will attend the IDEA Board meeting as a member of the Board of Directors of IDEA, which he holds as the first Arab and Emirati since 2013. His membership will continue till 2019, as per the three-year term renewal in June 2016. Bin Shafar confirmed that the UAE and Dubai have come a long way in the fields of district cooling and sustainability. This has helped Empower maintain its leading position in the global district cooling sector.
The conference addresses a number of topics related to renewable energy, environment and sustainable development. It highlights the phenomenon of global warming, and smart solutions in district cooling and facilities planning, as well as environmental challenges and ways to fix them, in addition to workshops and technical presentations in renewable energy.

During the visit, Bin Shafar will hold meetings with directors of various organisations in this field. He will review Dubai’s pioneering experience in district cooling systems, highlight successful and best practices that can be applied in cities globally, and shed light on effective policies and applications for attracting investment, and developing and operating district energy projects.
