The international conference ‘Future Green City’, which convenes specialists in construction, landscape design, infrastructure, and water resources, is being held in Utrecht, the Netherlands, from September 23 to 26. For the first time, Armenia is featured at this significant global ‘green’ event. Green Rock took part by showcasing the exhibition ‘Urban Gardens in the Caucasus: Historical Background, Contemporary Issues, and Future Expectations’. The film integrates documentary and fictional elements to narrate the history, challenges, and future outlook for gardens in the region.

In comparing the current state of gardens in post-Soviet countries, the film seeks to define what the public desires for urban green spaces. It explores the types of parks residents wish to have, and what facilities and commercial elements can satisfy the needs of various social groups. Created by Green Rock, the film includes interviews with community activist groups.

At Green Rock’s presentation, prominent industry leaders such as urban planners, architects, and government officials from the Netherlands, UK, Philippines, and the USA were in attendance. Following the screening, participants engaged with the speakers by asking questions, prompting a dialogue about Armenia’s current greening situation and issues. The discussion continued post-screening as experts exchanged ideas on potential solutions. Officials from Utrecht City Hall also participated and indicated their willingness to offer support and guidance as needed for identifying more effective solutions.

The Future Green City conference hosts over 3,000 professionals from across the globe. This conference was initiated by the Royal Dutch Stadswerk Association of the Netherlands and the Royal Dutch Association of Landscape Designers and Gardeners (VHG), in collaboration with World Urban Parks (WUP) and the International Federation of Municipal Engineering (IFME). The conference addresses critical social challenges across seven thematic areas: climate, energy conservation, biodiversity, transformation strategies, change management, design, urban planning, and health.
