The Saeed & Mohammed Al Naboodah Group, one of the UAE’s most respected Emirati-owned family conglomerates, reaffirms its commitment to sustainability this week with the launch of its 5th annual Sustainability Week 2020.
Despite the Coronavirus pandemic, the Group’s Sustainability Leadership Council has managed to organise an exciting calendar of events which will be taking place almost entirely online, with activities such as webinars, awareness sessions, team building activities, quizzes and competitions arranged for the Group’s employees to take part in.
The added benefit of the shift to online activities means that they will be accessible to employees across all of the offices, showrooms, sites and facilities covering the Group’s highly diverse breadth of operations, ranging from corporate to commercial and construction activities.
The Group’s sustainability initiatives are led by its GM for Sustainability, Fatima Ahmed Saeed Al Naboodah, a third-generation family member who has been spearheading sustainability at Al Naboodah since 2016.
Commenting on the launch of Al Naboodah’s Sustainability Week 2020, Fatima said: “It gives me great pleasure to launch our 5th annual Sustainability Week today. I’m extremely proud of my team for pulling together an exciting calendar of events despite the difficulties posed by the Coronavirus pandemic. Hosting our Sustainability Week in the face of these challenges demonstrates our commitment to corporate social responsibility and sustainable best practice, no matter what challenging conditions we face. I’m looking forward to taking part in a rewarding week of activities alongside our employees.”
Sustainability at Al Naboodah
Sustainability is embedded into Al Naboodah’s DNA and is supported from the highest level of senior management through to every employee. The Sustainability Committee, which consists of senior management, including Al Naboodah family members, drives sustainability strategic decisions and ensures that the decision-making process is aligned with Al Naboodah’s Vision 2025 and its annual strategic objectives.
The Committee is supported by the Sustainability Leadership Council, which is made up of Sustainability Leaders from across the Group who implement key initiatives, spread awareness and engage employees across the various business operations.
Sustainability is communicated to the rest of the Group through the Sustainability Framework, which provides clear strategic directions through yearly goals and targets, identified through stakeholder engagement workshops.
The Sustainability Framework is based on the triple-bottom line: Working as a Family (social), Unlocking Potential (economic) and Responsible Consumption (environmental). These pillars translate into objectives, targets and initiatives that are reassessed annually to ensure continuous improvement.
Each year, the Al Naboodah Group reports on its sustainability journey with the publication of its annual Sustainability Report, which is prepared in accordance with the GRI Standards: ‘Core option’ and represents the Communication on Progress on the UN Global Compact (UNGC) principles. It also describes ANGE’s contribution to the UN SDGs 2030, and UAE Vision 2021.
