Alliances for Global Sustainability (AGS)today entered into a strategic agreement with Women in Sustainability, Environment and Renewable Energy (WiSER), one of Masdar’s international outreach platforms, aiming to inspire women of all ages to play a more active role in addressing global sustainability challenges.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on the sidelines of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) by Sheikha Shamma bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, Founder and CEO of AGS, and Dr Lamya Fawwaz, Executive Director of Brand and Strategic Initiatives, Masdar and WiSER Program Director.
This strategic partnership will see AGS and WiSER collaborate on events, research, training and networking initiatives with industry experts, policymakers, rising stars, researchers and aspiring women leaders, focusing on sustainability, the circular economy and female empowerment.A key outcome will be improving opportunities for women to enter into science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines and providing mentorship and training for them to excel at all stages of their careers. The two organisations will also work closely to create pathways for senior leadership and boardroom roles in sustainability.
Sheikha Shamma bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyanstated: “Not only are women greatly impacted by environmental challenges, accounting for more than 80% of people displaced by climate change, but they can also play an integral role in driving solutions to overcome these challenges. The team at AGS and I are delighted to be partnering with WiSER on this initiative, that will empower women at all levels of their career to be actively involved in harnessing opportunities that pave the way towards a more sustainable future.”
Sheikha Shamma added: “This MoU complements the launch of our other projects, such as Aurora50,a social enterprise working with leading Middle East organisations to accelerate gender balance in the boardroom. Throughout all of our women empowerment initiatives, partnerships and programs, AGS has collaborated with strategic partners across the governmental and the private sector alike and I look forward to seeing the positive outcomes of our collaborative efforts.”
Dr Lamya Fawwaz, Executive Director of Brand and Strategic Initiatives, Masdar and WiSER Program Director, said: “WiSER and the Alliances for Global Sustainability share the same values when it comes to sustainability and female empowerment. By working together, we can build on the work we have both undertaken to equip women with the skills needed to be drivers of change and innovation in climate action.”
