Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank (ADIB), a leading financial institution, has been awarded for its commitment to corporate social responsibility (CSR) and support of the local community from the regional CSR Network Consultancy, a member of the United Nations Global Compact initiative. The award was presented to Mohammed Al Fahim, Regional Head of Corporate Banking at ADIB, by Adnan Yousef, CEO of Al Baraka, under the patronage of the Bahrain Minister of Finance.

On receiving the award, Mohammed Al Fahim, Regional Head of Corporate Banking at ADIB, said: “As a people-focused bank, we are committed to developing and launching new initiatives which can make a real difference to society. ADIB is particularly a strong advocate of youth financial education, seeing it as the best way to help them develop sound financial practices and contribute to the future stability of the national economy. We have introduced several new initiatives to help our customers take the right financial decisions, while forging new partnerships to bring our unique and practical financial education programs to a broader audience. Additionally, in alignment with the Year of Giving, we have further enhanced our CSR activities with the bank supporting numerous causes across the UAE and employees across ADIB giving up their time to serve their local communities. Such charitable principles represent the pillars which support the bank’s business objectives, and CSR will remain a core focus for us in future.”

The United Nations Global Compact is a United Nations initiative to encourage businesses worldwide to adopt sustainable and socially responsible policies, and to report on their implementation.

ADIB has a proven track record of CSR initiatives to reinforce and maximise its contribution to the society, including launching blood donation campaigns, sponsoring mass weddings and organising a range of activities during Ramadan, which ADIB staff also participated in. The bank has adopted the best-practice design principles aimed at minimising both energy and water inputs and waste outputs as part of its commitment to environmental responsibility. In addition, ADIB Future’s Champions League was a recipient of the coveted Gold Prize for the Best Sports CSR Initiative, and Bronze winner in the Youth Development Project of the Year at the 2017 Sports Industry Awards.

ADIB also maintained its commitment to recruit, develop and promote local talent through its youth development program, visiting campuses across the country and funding programs such as the cricket National School League and UAE football league. Agreements were signed with different universities and colleges, including: The American University of Dubai; EIBFS; Al Hosn University; Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT); and Abu Dhabi University, to sponsor students and participate in the development of academic programs, with the intention of increasing employment opportunities for UAE Nationals within the Islamic finance sector.
