Emirates Global Aluminium, the largest industrial company in the United Arab Emirates outside oil and gas, was today awarded the Dubai Chamber CSR Label for outstanding effort in corporate social responsibility.
The Dubai Chamber CSR Label from the Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry aims to recognise companies that deliver corporate social responsibility projects to international standards with local relevance. Companies are assessed in how their corporate social responsibility impacts the workplace, the marketplace, the community and the environment.
EGA was recognised in a virtual ceremony by His Excellency Hisham Al Shirawi, Vice-Chairman of Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Abdulnasser Bin Kalban, Chief Executive Officer of EGA, said today: “At EGA, we respect our neighbours and we are committed to positively engaging with local communities wherever we operate. Our CSR team focuses on education, healthy living and supporting local heritage with the objective of making a difference in people’s lives. We are honoured to be recognised by Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry for this work.”
His Excellency Hisham Al Shirawi, 2nd Vice-Chairman of Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry, congratulated Emirates Global Aluminium for receiving the Dubai Chamber CSR Label and praised the company for its corporate social responsibility and sustainability efforts, which are raising industry standards. This achievement, he noted, reflects growing awareness of CSR among businesses in the UAE, adding that he recognition will encourage other businesses to adopt responsible business practices.
EGA’s corporate social responsibility projects including hosting INJAZ Innovation Camps for hundreds of schoolchildren each year. INJAZ UAE is a member of Junior Achievement Worldwide, one of the world’s largest not-for-profit business education organisations, reaching over 10 million students each year in 121 countries.
EGA promotes health and fitness, including through support for Dubai Sports World each summer at International Convention and Exhibition Centre.
In Abu Dhabi, EGA is the main sponsor of Al Samha Heritage festival, organised by Emirates Heritage Club, and which aims to support and consolidate the national identity and to embody and spread the UAE’s cultural heritage.
EGA also supports employee volunteering activities through its ‘Corporate Social Responsibility Club’, which is open to any EGA employee who would like to volunteer their time either during or outside working hours.
EGA has been awarded Dubai Chamber CSR Label’s twice before – last year in the community category, and in 2012 for the CSR work of Dubai Aluminium (which merged with Emirates Aluminium to form EGA in 2014).
