For the fourth consecutive year, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) will set up its Innovation Hall at the 21st Water, Energy, Technology, and Environment Exhibition (WETEX 2019) and the 4th Dubai Solar Show. DEWA organises WETEX under the directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and under the patronage of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Minister of Finance and President of DEWA, from 21-23 October 2019 at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.
WETEX 2018 will be held under the umbrella of Green Week, the pioneering initiative led by DEWA to implement green practices. It also coincides with the 4th Dubai Solar Show and the 6th World Green Economy Summit (WGES). The Innovation Hall will attract creative minds and innovative start-ups to display their inventions and innovations in conventional and clean energy, water, environment, and green development.
“His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai once observed, ‘Creativity and ideas can build countries and institutions. The future belongs to those who generate ideas.’ Every year, the UAE dedicates a full month to celebrate innovation and encourage all who live in our beloved country to innovate. At DEWA, we give exceptional priority to innovation in line with the National Innovation Strategy, which aims to make the UAE one of the most innovative countries in the world, and the Dubai Innovation Strategy to make Dubai the most innovative city in the world. This is achieved by adopting innovative technologies and making use of disruptive technologies to keep pace with the Fourth Industrial Revolution, to achieve the vision of our wise leadership to reach the government of the future,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, Founder and Chairman of WETEX.
“For the fourth consecutive year, DEWA has a dedicated hall for innovation at WETEX and the Dubai Solar Show. This supports our ongoing efforts to develop innovative solutions in the energy, water, environment, and sustainability, as well as highlight creative ideas. The hall will feature workshops and competitions during WETEX, to discuss the challenges that face the energy sector and find innovative solutions, with global experts taking part in the workshops,” added Al Tayer.
Al Tayer noted that DEWA sent 20 Emiratis as part of the ‘Ambassadors of Innovation-Leaders of the Future’ programme to China, with Watani Al Emarat Foundation. The programme, implemented by DEWA and Watani Al Emarat Foundation, supports the UAE’s efforts to empower young people through creativity and innovation, as well as volunteer work among DEWA’s employees whilst promoting Emirati-Chinese relations. The Innovation Ambassadors team included 10 high school science students, 5 students from DEWA Academy, and 5 Emirati DEWA technicians. The training areas included renewable energy generation and storage technologies, artificial intelligence (AI) systems, blockchain, fifth-generation network technologies, smart systems for electricity and water infrastructure, and electric vehicle technologies.
