Chile is making its first presence at the 21st Water, Energy, Technology, and Environment Exhibition (WETEX 2019) and the 4th Dubai Solar Show. Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is organising the exhibitions under the directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai; and under the patronage of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Minister of Finance and President of DEWA; between 21 and 23 October, 2019, at the Dubai Convention and Exhibition Centre under the umbrella of the sixth Green Week.

In response to the UAE’s invitation to highlight Chile’s experience and innovative solutions in water and solar technologies, two leading Chilean companies, Crystal Lagoons and HH Solar will participate in the exhibitions. Crystal Lagoons will exhibit its pioneering, innovative and sustainable technology that allows crystalline lagoons of unlimited sizes to be built and maintained at very low costs using a minimum number of additives and energy at WETEX 2019 and 4th Dubai Solar Show. HH Solar focuses on the implementation of photovoltaic solar power projects, and will display its range of innovative solutions and products in solar pumps, atmospheric water generation, rural drinking water and solar lighting at its stand.

Chile is one of the most attractive destinations in the world to set up renewable energy projects, thanks to an array of opportunities, support and experiences it offers, according to Bloomberg Climatescope. In 2018, Chile generated 46% of energy from renewable sources and is working towards increasing it to 70% by 2050. Chile has also developed airplanes and programmes to encourage electro mobility in recent years, contributing to sustainability efforts. These milestones and achievements reflect the country’s commitment to environment and sustainable growth.

Santiago, the capital of Chile, today has the largest fleet of electric public transport in the world apart from China. All these efforts support the Decarbonisation Plan of the energy matrix announced by Chilean President Sebastián Piñera, who is considering the closure of eight coal plants within five years. This will be followed by the closure of the remaining thermoelectric plants in the country by 2040. The country’s hosting of the XXV Conference on Climate Change of the UN in December further boosted its efforts in this direction.

Chile’s commitment to the environment is further highlighted by the innovation efforts fostered by this country that has the driest desert in the world. Today, Chile is experiencing a severe water crisis with certain areas in the country facing a rainfall deficit of over 80%. With the help of technological development and innovations, Chile has embarked on a search for solutions to improve the availability, quality and efficiency of its water resources, while also contributing to its agro industrial power. Considering this, Chile’s participation in the latest WETEX and Dubai Solar Show is of great significance.
