Achievements in the oil and gas industry have been honoured, with the presentation of the prestigious ADIPEC Awards, rounding out the opening day of the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC).

The ADIPEC Awards recognise the achievements of businesses, initiatives and individuals shaping the rapidly changing industry. ADNOC’s Onshore CEO and ADIPEC Awards Chairman, Saif Ahmed Alghfeli, said this year’s awards had been the most successful ever, attracting 407 entries from more than 132 companies, based in 34 countries.

“I have had the privilege of working alongside the Regional Select Jury in the selection process of the ADIPEC Awards and I would like to thank them for their dedication and hard work in evaluating the very high-quality entries,” Alghfeli said.

“The task has not been an easy one. They have all submitted excellent projects and reaching the final stage in this stringent process is a great achievement.”

Winners were announced at the ADIPEC Awards Gala Dinner, hosted by Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), and held at the Ritz-Carlton Abu Dhabi, Grand Canal in Al Maqta.

Each had demonstrated excellence within an area of significance to the oil and gas industry, from digitalisation to socio-economic development.

Saudi Aramco was highly successful. Company projects won two categories, and a Saudi Aramco employee also won Young ADIPEC Engineer.

“The ADIPEC Awards are among the most prestigious awards recognitions in the industry,” said Saudi Aramco engineer and researcher, Abubaker Alsaeed, who was at the ceremony to collect two of the awards won by Saudi Aramco teams.

“The awards are an inspiration for us to work hard, to overcome the challenges that we face in the industry and in our operations every day, and this recognition is a motivation for all of us to achieve even more.”

As the winner of the Young ADIPEC Engineer award, Sarah Alsaif was particularly pleased to be among a group of finalists where all those shortlisted were female.

“When you see a woman winning an award, it gives you encouragement, and it gives a push for young women to achieve more in the industry and to be proud of their work,” said Alsaif. “We have a lot of women doing a lot of really good work, and to be participating in and winning events, such as the ADIPEC Awards, helps show what we are achieving.”

The judging process, which ran from August to September, involved detailed assessments conducted by a jury of industry experts. They included senior executives and professionals drawn from national and international oil and gas companies; engineering, procurement and construction firms; professional bodies and academic institutions.

One of the judges, Mubadala Petroleum’s Drilling Director, Adel Shaaya, said: “I’m very honoured and privileged to be part of the prestigious ADIPEC Awards 2017 Jury committee and to have been able to assess the very promising and excellent entries.

“We had a challenging time, during the selection process, due to the number of impressive entrants, most of whom were qualified to win an award. The ADIPEC Awards set high standards for the oil and gas industry in the MENA region and beyond.”

Fellow jury member, Aseel Hamoodi, Talent Development Unit Manager at ADNOC, said: “The ADIPEC Awards have become the industry’s most prestigious platform on which to demonstrate and showcase the industry’s successes through their relentless drive for innovation.”
