The People’s Republic of China, 24 July 2019: HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), visited the People’s Republic of China to promote bilateral relations and exchange best global experiences and practices in clean energy.
During the visit, Al Tayer was accompanied by Dr. Yousef Al Akraf, Executive Vice President of Business Support and Human Resources at DEWA; Jamal Shaheen Al Hammadi, Vice President of Clean Energy & Diversification at DEWA; Dr. Saif Almheiri, Vice President of Research & Development at DEWA; and a number of DEWA officials.
Al Tayer was briefed on the latest developments and global technologies in the construction of floating photovoltaic solar power plants, which DEWA is exploring, in line with its long-term plans to ensure an innovative and sustainable world for future generations. Floating photovoltaic systems are among the most prominent emerging technology applications that rely on the deployment of photovoltaic solar systems directly on the surface of the water.
DEWA works in line with the vision of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to achieve economic, social, and environmental development as well as to conserve natural resources within the framework of federal and local strategies, including the UAE Vision 2021, UAE Centennial 2071, Dubai Plan 2021, and Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 to diversify the Emirate’s energy resources and make Dubai a global centre for clean energy and green economy; and provide 75% of Dubai’s clean energy by 2050, making Dubai the lowest carbon footprint city in the world by 2050.
Al Tayer and the accompanying delegation visited the 150-megawatt Sungrow Power solar PV plant in Hefei, east of China’s Anhui Province, the world’s largest floating solar power plant. Sungrow Power is one of the world’s leading companies in developing floating photovoltaic solar systems. Al Tayer also met with Cao Renxian, CEO of Sungrow Power; Huang Xuefei, General Manager of Sungrow Power Floating Solar PV and other senior staff.
DEWA also issued a request for proposal for appointing consultants to study, develop, and construct floating solar photovoltaic plants in the Arabian Gulf. The consultancy services include a feasibility study, the technical requirements, an environmental impact assessment report, a study of the marine requirements, and other necessary studies on setting up electrical transmission, safety plans, and seawater feasibility studies that include tidal and system specifications, system performance, and other studies and required settings, in addition to technical specifications of the project.
