As the nights begin to draw in and the leaves start to fall, it can be all too easy to stay indoors with a hot chocolate and a cosy blanket. Nevertheless, there are so many fun and educational activities to get your children outdoors and keep them entertained during the Autumn months. Here are three ideas for Autumn outdoor activities that your children will love.
Scavenger hunts/nature walk
Autumn is the perfect time of year to take your children exploring outdoors. There are so many wonderful colours in the trees and animals in the wild. A great idea would be to go on a treasure hunt in a local park or woods with a picture checklist of typical Autumn sights. Some examples of typical Autumn sights are acorns, fallen leaves, conkers and even animals such as squirrels and birds. You could even create a collage from a collection of colourful leaves that your children have collected on their nature walk.
If you’re looking to teach your children about fruits and vegetables of the season, you could find somewhere to pick blackberries and apples and take them home to make a delicious pie. Your kids will be eager to help make the dessert with all the fresh fruit they handpicked.
Take a trip to the beach
Even with the absence of sunny skies, a trip to the beach can be lots of fun for your children. Wrap up warm and take some beach games along with you. If your children are wearing wellies they can splash around in the sea and run across the sand without getting too cold. After a day of collecting shells, playing games and splashing in the sea, warm up with a flask of hot chocolate and some fluffy towels to dry off.
Visit the local park
A day out at the park is always fun as a child whatever the weather. Take lots of warm clothing and head down to your local park for the day. To keep your children entertained, take their favourite toys and games such as a football and a bat and ball. If there’s a skate park or a paved area, your children could go rollerblading or skateboarding. Make sure they are fully equipped with safety gear such as pads, a helmet and skating shoes for the skateboarders to keep their grip on the board. Skate Hut have a great selection of skate shoes as well as a large selection of skateboards, scooters and bikes, perfect for keeping the kids entertained.
