Are you a green conscious holiday-goer who wants to get closer to nature and have an adventure at the same time? Italy has a lot to offer for tourists – good food, beautiful architecture and a sunny climate. It also boasts many activities to help you fill your holiday itinerary with Italy’s natural wonders.

Here are a few green activities in Italy that you can enjoy on your family holiday:

Hiking

Italy is home to many picturesque towns and rugged mountain ranges that are perfect for exploring by foot. Immerse yourself in the Tuscan landscapes and gorgeous countryside, or follow the Mediterranean trails of Sardinia.

The months that enjoy the most pleasant temperatures and have beautiful scenery for a walking holiday in Italy are April, May, October and November. However, sun worshippers may want to visit in the summer months between June and August, where the Italian summer is at its finest.

Cycling

Travelling around by bike is perfect in cities like Florence and Rome and a greener alternative to taxis and trams.

However, more experienced cyclists may want to try the breath-taking and iconic Stelvio Pass in Bormio. It’s the second highest paved road in the Alps, containing 48 hairpin bends and a number of different routes that are reserved for only cycling pros! Although a challenging climb, the landscape alone makes it more than worth the journey and there’s nothing more rewarding than a chance to admire the views at the summit.

Scuba Diving

The islands of Sicily and Sardinia are the ideal destination for a family of keen divers. St Elmo’s Rock in Sardinia is full of caves and caverns to explore, with an array of marine life.

Just off the coast of Sicily is Aci Trezza, that features a three column-shaped rock formation also known as the Cyclopean Rocks. According to mythology, Polyphemus flung these rocks at Ulysses! As well as this, the dive site features various wrecks that date back to WWII and the underwater scenery is incredible.

The Mediterranean has plenty to offer divers of all levels and anyone looking for a green holiday surrounded by nature may want to consider scuba diving.

Camping

Camping is a great way to get closer to nature. It’s fun and eco-friendly, and it can be luxurious too when you choose one of Eurocamp’s mobile holiday homes! With their holiday parcs located all around Italy, you can enjoy restaurants, BBQs, zipwires, canoeing and much more… Perfect for keeping all the family happy on your summer break, whilst also showing off your green credentials.
