Dubai Media City (DMC), Dubai Studio City (DSC) and Dubai Production City (DPC) celebrated the ninth edition of the Car-free Day on 4 February 2018.
In line with the leadership’s directives to support green initiatives aimed at achieving sustainable development, saving energy and protecting the environment, the media communities encouraged their employees to adopt greener ways of commuting to work, such as carpooling, public transport and – for short distances – walking and cycling.
Dubai Media City’s and Dubai Studio City’s parking areas promoted carpooling through allocating free parking spots for cars with three or more people. Carpoolers also received gift vouchers.
The campaign witnessed tremendous uptake across the three business parks, resulting in a higher usage of the metro, bus and tram throughout the day. Participants also had the opportunity to win gift vouchers for posting their selfies on public transport on social media.
Majed Al Suwaidi, Managing Director of Dubai Media City, Dubai Studio City and Dubai Production City, said: “We are proud to participate in the Car-free Day that has gained immense popularity over the years. The campaign supports the goals of the Dubai Plan 2021 to preserve natural resources and promote sustainable lifestyle, particularly among the young generation. In our drive to help reduce carbon emissions and environmental pollution, we aim to continue implementing initiatives such as this one that help maintain a wholesome living environment. We do hope more people adopt such viable practices every day rather than on one day in a year.”
Launched by Dubai Municipality in 2010, the Car-free Day is a pioneering regional initiative that has contributed significantly to Dubai’s transformation into a sustainable 21stcentury metropolis.
