The UAE will take part in a high-level event on the occasion of the launch of the International Decade for Action "Water for Sustainable Development" 2018-2028.

At the initiative of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and in cooperation with the United Nations, UN, and other partners the high-level conference on the International Decade for Action "Water for Sustainable Development," 2018-2028 will be held in Dushanbe on 20th-22nd June, 2018, aimed at implementing water-related goals and targets.

In a press conference, held on Thursday in Abu Dhabi, the Tajik Embassy to the UAE said that the conference will discuss the ways on how the member states, relevant UN bodies, the specialised agencies, the regional commissions and other organisations of the UN system, as well as other relevant partners, including the private sector, can contribute to the decade in order to support the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The conference is intended to continue and enrich discussion of the high-level launch event of the International Decade for Action "Water for Sustainable Development" 2018-2028, held on 22nd March, 2018, in New York.

The event also provides a timely and necessary platform for elaborating recommendation in the run-up to the next session of the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development where, among other issues, the SDG 6 will be discussed.

It will also allow for discussion on the importance of specific means of implementation, including monitoring, financing, capacity development, innovation, technology, knowledge, information, data, best-practices, as well as promoting advocacy, networking and encouraging partnership for action.

The conference will deepen the understanding of the International Decade for Action "Water for Sustainable Development" 2018-2028, promote integrated water resources management and galvanise action in support of the implementation of the water-related SDGs specifically.

It is expected that more than 1,000 participants from 100 countries including head of states/governments, ministers and higher ranking officials, representatives of the UN institutions, international and regional organisations, international financial institutions, business communities, non-governmental organisations, civil society, as well as scientists and experts will participate in the high-level conference on the International Decade for Action ‘Water for Sustainable Development’ 2018-2028.
