Danfoss, a global leader in engineering technologies, recently supported the launch of the new cooling report “Chilling Prospects: Providing Sustainable Cooling for All”, released by the United Nations initiated Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) at the United Nations High-Level Political Forum.
´Chilling Prospects´ is the first-ever report to quantify the growing risks and assess the opportunities of the global cooling challenge, while outlining recommendations on how to increase access to affordable and sustainable cooling solutions throughout the world.
The report highlights the important role of the industry to solve the growing cooling demand in a sustainable way, by thinking more holistically about heating and cooling and how to deploy the most efficient existing technology, and developing new, innovative solutions for the most vulnerable.
Cooling is an essential need in everyone´s daily life
The Middle East will be responsible for 8% of the world’s electricity consumption for space cooling by 2050. In an increasingly warming world, the impact of not having access to modern and sustainable cooling solutions must be acknowledged and addressed.
“Danfoss is fully committed to accelerating energy efficiency as a way to provide sustainable cooling access for all. Our contribution to this report is a remarkable step in actively raising awareness about the need to scale up policies and action, such as minimum energy performance standards and labeling, to ensure the use of the best available technology in the cooling industry,” said Ziad Al Bawaliz Danfoss Regional President for Turkey, Middle East and Africa.
With up to 70% of the Gulf Cooperation Council’s (GCC) energy consumption used for HVAC and cooling applications, consumers will demand a lower cost-of-ownership and more environmentally-friendly solutions. Deploying the most efficient, best-in-class technology to reduce food loss and keep vital medicine stored safely consequently brings huge environmental and socio-economic benefits.
“Industry is ready for sustainable cooling. Energy-efficient and low global warming potential technology is available today and needs to be implemented globally. Therefore, we are pleased to help shed light on the importance of worldwide access to sustainable cooling. Through continued investment in innovation, best-in-class technology can help solve some of the world´s biggest problems starting today,” said Jürgen Fischer, President Danfoss Cooling and industry representative in the Cooling for All Global Panel.
