ABB will present its latest ABB Ability™-based technology solutions at CEPSI 2018 from September 17-21, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. CEPSI is a leading bi-annual electricity-supply conference in East Asia and the Western Pacific region, and ABB is a platinum sponsor this year.
According to the World Energy Council, global demand for energy continues to grow, with Southeast Asia expected to be among the world’s fastest growing regions. Energy demand in Southeast Asia is projected to increase by almost two-thirds by 2040. The World Energy Outlook (WEO) attributes two key drivers influencing energy demand in the region, namely robust economic growth and rapid urbanization. The region’s economy is expected to triple in size while urban population alone is estimated to rise by 150 million people by 2040.
Apart from delivering immediate needs for connectivity to people in remote areas and ensuring an energy mix that balances economic, social and environmental essentials, investments in technologies for power systems of the future are necessary to take the region forward.
Highlights from ABB’s showcase include innovative solutions that can enable digitalization and enhance the grid, in line with this year’s conference theme, “Re-imagining utility of the future.” ABB will demonstrate digital solutions that increase grid reliability and eco-efficiency. Also on display are automation and control solutions like ABB Ability Network Manager and asset lifecycle management solutions such as ABB Ability™ Ellipse that are all helping to shape the internet of things (IOT) for the grid.
Several “smart” transformer solutions, including the game-changing ABB Ability™ Power Transformer, the world’s first integrated solution for digitally enabled power transformers, which enables remote monitoring and data analytics of its vital parameters in real time, and its ABB Ability™ TXpert™ , digital distribution transformer will also be part of this exhibition. These innovations enhance reliability, enable higher utilization of grid assets and power networks and increase eco-efficiency.
ABB will also showcase its innovative Flexible Alternating Current Transmission Systems (FACTS) solutions like STATCOM, and its latest power quality solutions like capacitors and filters, power electronics-based compensators and software solutions that enhance energy efficiency and enable grid code compliance across the power value chain.
“The utility of the future is being shaped by the changing energy mix and influx of renewables, as well as new demand loads. Digitalization is a key enabler behind this grid transformation, and CEPSI is an important forum of experts to present new innovations and technology,” said Venu Nuguri, ABB’s Lead division head for Power Grids in South Asia, Middle East and Africa. “ABB’s showcase of innovative solutions reinforces the company’s focus on being a partner of choice for enabling a stronger, smarter and greener grid.”
Venu will also deliver a keynote address on the topic of “Power systems of the future – Grid edge technologies at the event” and 10 ABB technical experts will present papers at the week-long conference.
