Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance, has participated in the Paris Peace Forum, which concluded on Wednesday and attended by heads of state and government as well as other representatives of international organizations from 72 countries.
An initiative of French President Emmanuel Macron, the three-day event is a new annual platform based international cooperation as a key to tackling global challenges and ensuring durable peace.
The UAE pavilion in the event has drawn appreciation from participants for highlighting challenges facing the environment and its impact on global food security.
The UAE presented some programmes carried out by the Mohamed bin Zayed Species Conservation Fund, a US$ 30 million philanthropic endowment established to provide targeted grants to individual species conservation initiatives. The Paris Peace Forum’s Selection Committee received close to 900 applications from 116 countries. The Mohamed bin Zayed Species Conservation Fund was among 119 projects selected to be showcased at the first Paris Peace Forum.
Razan Khalifa Al Mubarak, Managing Director of the Mohamed bin Zayed Species Conservation Fund, and Secretary General of the Environment Agency Abu Dhabi, outlined the successes of the Fund to conserve some endangered species.
"Over the last 10 years, the Fund has protected more than 1,200 endangered species globally in more than 170 different countries,"she told the Emirates News Agency, WAM.
The Mohamed bin Zayed Species Conservation Fund provides micro-philanthropic financial support in the form of small grants up to $25,000 to species conservationists all over the world who engage in conservation projects to save species from extinction.
The forum discussed five topics: peace and security; environment and development; digital space; modern technology and inclusive economy.
