1.    Fruita, CO

Fruita is a small town with big town amenities. It is a laid-back community that has much to offer bicyclists. With a high-desert mountain-biking terrain, this is a perfect location for autumn cycling.

The high points on the mountain gives you amazing views in the autumn, as you look over a landscape of trees, varying in many different colors.

2. Fall City, WA

Fall City is just a drive from Seattle and is a must for road bikers.

You ride on a flat route that extends 22 miles and pass amazing autumn scenery, such as cornfields, pumpkin patches, and farms. This ride entails all the great colors of autumn along with the beautiful experiences.

3. Asheville, NC

Asheville offers a 20-mile route around scenic highways, starting and ending at the same location. This ride allows you to experience one-of-a-kind views of autumn on the east coast.

Mountains and hills of color-changing trees and bushes will follow your ride, as well as crisp air and the smell of nature. The wildlife you’ll experience out her is unique to turkeys and even bears!

4. Cape Cod, MA

Cape Cod has the 25-mile rail trail that is recommended for an autumn day. You’ll ride through small towns under tree canopies of vibrant autumn colors.

These colors mix with the greens of evergreens and green bushes to create a unique autumn look. The temperature can get quite cold here, so make sure to bring appropriate clothing and necessities.

5. Shimanami, Japan

If you are looking to travel outside of America for a getaway location and experience a new and exciting adventure, than you need to go to Shimanami. Cycling in Japan is unique and amazing.

On this cycling adventure you will travel between the two islands of Honshu and Shikoku on your bike. This is a 77- km ride and is great for beginners! If you want to add an additional 40- km, then take the scenic route and visit Onomichi and Matsuyama and enjoy the famous hot springs!

Tips for Riding in Autumn

Carry Supplies: Adequate water and snacks to supplement you while bike riding.

Dress Appropriately: Arm Warmers, Long Sleeves, Wind Breakers, Sleeveless Vest, Knee Warmers and Over socks are all in season depending on the weather where you live. Layer your cycling wardrobe to be warmer and protected.

Arm and knee warmers are usually made from lycra fabric and offer warmth and protection from cold weather. These are a very affordable accessory to help you take on the cooler weather and come in a variety of colors and patterns to suit you.

Sleeveless vests and windbreakers are a great way to protect your body from rain and wind chill. These are not too expensive and you find many colors.

Over socks is a great way to keep your feet warm and clean on rides. These fit over your shoes to protect cold air from getting inside of vents in the shoes, as well as keeping them clean on rainy and muddy rides.

Stay Visible! During autumn, the day comes later, and the night comes sooner, so make sure you are always visible. Wear reflectors, bright clothing, be noticeable. If it’s raining, or dreary out, be sure to wear something bright and florescent and wear reflective gear.

Always Wear Your Helmet! This could be life saving! Always wear your helmet to protect your head in any kind of accident or injury. Keep your head safe.
