His Excellency Mohammed bin Jarsh Al Falasi, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Department of Energy (DoE) emphasised that the UAE’s care for the environment stems from the true commitment of its leadership to sustaining natural resources for next generations.
On the occasion of Earth Hour, His Excellency said: "It is our duty to protect the Earth, its nature and the environment we live in. It is imperative that the global community works together to provide a planet that has fresh air, nutritious soil, clean oceans and a balanced weather system for each and every one of the world’s inhabitants.
His Excellency added: “The founding father, late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, taught us the importance of caring for our land, our nature, and our wildlife. Today we are inspired by his beliefs and commit to continuing with his approach to protect our planet from threats and irrational behaviors.”
His Excellency called on citizens, residents and visitors in Abu Dhabi to participate in Earth Hour by turning off unnecessary lighting and electronic devices – or at least reducing their use for one hour – from 8:30 until 9:30 pm, to contribute to reducing both energy consumption and electric pollution in the emirate. He stressed that the goals of the global initiative fall in line with the objectives of Abu Dhabi’s strategy to conserve the environment and rationalise energy consumption.
