Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and COP28 President Designate, met with key US government leaders at the White House on Thursday to discuss raising global climate ambition and the road to COP28.

During the meeting, which was convened by US Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry, Dr. Sultan put forward his vision for a pro-growth, pro-climate agenda, underscoring the COP28 Presidency’s commitment to drive action across mitigation, adaptation, climate finance and loss and damage.

The discussion also covered multilateral development bank (MDB) reform, an update on recent US climate policy action, the need to invest in global clean energy supply chains, and the role of the US-UAE Partnership for Accelerating Clean Energy (PACE).

The meeting was attended by US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan; Senior Advisor to President John Podesta; US Special Presidential Coordinator for Global Infrastructure & Energy Security Amos Hochstein; National Climate Advisor Ali Zaidi; Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy Arati Prabhakar; NSC Coordinator for the Middle East and North Africa Brett McGurk; UAE Ambassador to the US Yousef Al Otaiba and COP28 Director-General Majid Al Suwaidi, among other senior UAE and US officials.
