Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower), the world’s largest district cooling services provider, announced the launch of its annual summer campaign to rationalize cooling energy consumption under the theme ‘Set & Save 24°C’. Launched earlier this month and continues until the end of the summer season, the campaignaims at fostering sustainable practices among its customers in order for the company to continue contributing to the green economy as the pioneer in providing environmentally friendly and world-class district cooling services, which uses up to 50% less energy compared to traditional cooling solutions.
This year’s summer started early and with high temperatures. This may drive people to keep the air conditioner thermostat at a low temperature always, which results in a great waste of energy and ends with a high consumption bill, the Company said.
As part of the campaign, which is being organized for the eighth year in a row, Empowerpointed out that it is keen to reach its more than 140,000 customers across the residential and commercial units that are being provided with the company’s services.
"Rationalizing energy consumption should be a common focus for all of us, whether as a service provider or beneficiaries, because it is a sustainable practice that brings great and multiple benefits to the community and even to future generations", said Ahmad bin Shafar, CEO of Empower.
"The campaign aims to urge and encourage our customers to rationalize district cooling consumption by setting the air conditioner thermostat at 24°C. This will result inreducing consumption bills, protecting environment, saving energy, and preserving resources towards a green future."company specified.
Empower further explained that setting air conditioners to the automatic mode at 24°C is an ideal option for effective and comfort cooling."This process ensures low pressure on the district cooling network and contributes to a significant reduction in carbon emissions, which in turn reduces global warming", the Company added.
The CEO stressed that the demand for Empower’s energy efficient district cooling services is increasing from all over Dubai, as the company has recorded a 57% growth in the registration rate for district cooling services in the first four months of this year, compared to the same period of last year.
"Thanks to the kind cooperation ofour customers, Empower was able to achieve energy savings of more than 1,312 megawatts of electricity AED 3.4 billion dirhams by the end of last year,while savings of fresh water in 2020 was amounted to more than 349 million imperial gallons, he added.
"Empower counts on the awareness of its customers to contribute to reducing energy consumption, and it spares no effort to adopt sustainable solutions in line with the’Green Economy for Sustainable Development’ initiative, which was launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and then adopted by the Dubai government with the aim of limiting climate change and ensuring a better future for future generations by reducing electricity and water consumption rates by 30 percent and making Dubai a global hub for the green economy and the city with the lowest carbon footprint in the world by 2050", he concluded.
