First Solar, Inc. (NASDAQ: FSLR) yesterday hosted an extensive workshop on photovoltaic (PV) solar technologies – the First Solar PV Knowledge Exchange 2017 – For a range of Jordanian companies. The workshop was attended by over 60 professionals representing Jordanian engineering firms, EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) companies, and solar power plant developers.

Led by Dr. Raed Bkayrat, First Solar’s Vice President of Business Development for the Middle East, the workshop focused on the benefits of the company’s high-performance thin film technology, recent developments in efficiency, and the technology roadmap for PV technologies. Significantly, First Solar’s modules can deliver up to 5 percent more specific energy in areas of Jordan, such as Ma’an, where it built the 52.5-megawatt Shams Ma’an power plant. The event also covered subjects such as energy forecasting, the integration of renewables into the grid, and the operation and maintenance of solar power plants.

“Jordan is a regional leader in renewables, and we see an unprecedented growth in this sector,” Dr Bkayrat said. “This workshop was designed to share our 17-gigawatts of global experience with our customers and partners, as part of our long-term commitment to participating in the country’s solar energy ambitions. It is vital for Jordan’s solar energy industry to place emphasis on the value of energy and on the quality of technology being procured – Shams Ma’an Power Generation did exactly that and now owns a world-class utility-scale power plant that is outperforming expectations.”

Headquartered in the United States, First Solar is a leading global provider of solar energy solutions. With over 270MW installed in the Middle East, it currently has the largest installed based among PV module manufacturers in the region.
